Special After-Care Information Following Carpet Cleaning Services

Please leave everything as the cleaner left it, especially your plastic “tabs” and “blocks” under your furniture, for 48 hours after cleaning. As a safety precaution, please do not let your children or pets crawl or lie down on the carpet until it is completely dry. Please use extreme caution when walking from the damp carpet to any hard surface area. Please do not sit on damp furniture until dry.

Certain carpets may produce waves or ripples while backing is damp. Don’t be alarmed, they will disappear when completely dry. Remember, cross ventilation speeds drying better than raising heat. This is an important factor when cleaning in the winter months. Avoid placing towels or mats over the damp carpet, doing so will prolong drying.

What are the tabs/blocks that are under my furniture?

They protect your carpet from furniture stains or rust from metal leg caps. The blocks also allow airflow under flat-based items. Please wait until completely dry before removing. Leave them in place for 24 hours.

How long should I leave my cushions propped after cleaning?

Until completely dry.

Should I turn on ceiling fans, open windows and/or turn up the heat?

Yes, all of these will decrease dry time. Rotating cushions and their position will also decrease dry time as well as provide uniformity in drying.

How do I know if my carpet or area rug is dry enough to put furniture back?

The general rule is to wait 24 hours before removing Styrofoam blocks and/or clear tabs that are put in place as a barrier to protect the furniture and carpet.

This is very important – our carpet and area rug cleaning is deep and thorough and though carpeting may feel dry to the touch, the deep down fibers may still need some extra dry time. Replacing metal or wrought iron furniture onto carpet not yet fully dry will call rust to occur at the point of contact on the carpet. Replacing mahogany or stained wood furniture will cause the stain to bleed from the furniture onto the carpet and stain.

We start cleaning in the room furthest from the point of entry (generally the front door) and work our way backwards so we don’t walk over anything we have just cleaned. This said, the carpet nearest the front door will be the last carpet cleaned, therefore the longest to fully dry. Test this area by placing a white paper towel on the carpet for 60 seconds. If no moisture has absorbed into the paper towel, your home is completely safe to return furniture to its original position.

How soon can I walk on the carpet?

During the cleaning, our technicians will wear shoe covers – they take them off each time they go outside and put them back on before stepping onto your carpet. This keeps outside soil, outside and off of your carpet. We will leave a pair of shoe covers for each person in the household to wear while carpet dries so you can walk on it right away. The preference is to keep regular traffic off the carpet for a period of 6 hours.
